Ski Mountaineering on Gran Paradiso (4061 m) is a must-do experience for those who wish to summit a 4000-meter peak entirely within Italy. This two-day ascent combines physical endurance, high-altitude challenges, and the thrill of skiing in a glacial environment.

Ascent Program

Day 1: Departure from the valley and a 800-meter ascent (approx. 2 hours) to Rifugio Vittorio Emanuele II (2735 m), where we overnight. The day is dedicated to acclimatization and equipment preparation for the following day's climb.

Day 2: Early morning start to tackle the remaining 1300 meters of elevation gain (approx. 5 hours of ascent). The route begins on gentle glacial slopes before steepening towards the summit. The final section requires rock climbing with crampons, but the reward is an extraordinary panoramic view over the Western Alps.

Difficulty and Requirements

While the skiing itself is not particularly technical, the itinerary is classified as BSA (Good Ski Mountaineer Level).

With a total elevation gain of 2100 meters and high-altitude exposure, this ascent demands strong physical endurance and experience navigating glacial terrain. Participants must be comfortable using crampons and an ice axe for certain sections.

Descent
