Ferrata Marmolada West Ridge - Overnight stay at the top

Ferrata Marmolada West Ridge - Overnight stay at the top

The Cresta Ovest via ferrata that leads to the top of Punta Penia is a historic and highly satisfying climb. The itinerary begins at Forcella Marmolada at an altitude of 2900 meters and from there leads to the summit of the Queen of the Dolomites at an altitude of 3343 meters.

The most rewarding itinerary is certainly the one that includes the ascent by the via ferrata and the descent by the glacier, it is preferable to do it all in two days sleeping at the top in Carlo Budel's shelter.

Upon reservation, it is possible to organize with the Alpine Guide to make the ascent either in a group or privately on days other than those proposed.

Requests?

Do I need to know how to climb to do a via ferrata?

No, you don't need to know how to climb.
A via ferrata makes it easier to reach the summit even without climbing or mountaineering skills. For the more challenging via ferratas, a minimum climbing ability is still required, while for the easier ones there are no prerequisites in this sense.

Can I climb a via ferrata even if I suffer from vertigo and am afraid of heights?

Generally, trust in the Alpine Guide and in the technical material used mitigates the fear of heights and voids, however in case of obvious vertigo it is perhaps better to focus on easier activities.

How do you behave in case of bad weather?

If the Alpine Guide deems that the conditions are adverse, he can cancel or postpone the excursion. In case of cancellation by the Alpine Guide, any deposit will be fully refunded or, in agreement with the client, retained for a possible other date.

Will we take the lift?

No, the lift to Pian dei Fiacconi is out of service.

Is it possible to complete the entire itinerary in one day?

Yes, it's possible after a phone consultation with the participants.

Instead of starting from Lake Fedaia, can we start from Rifugio Contrin?

Yes, it's possible, just make sure to organize it in advance.

If we decide to start from Rifugio Contrin, is it possible to reach it by bike?

Yes, it is possible to reach Rifugio Contrin by either electric or muscle-powered bike.

If we start from Rifugio Contrin, how will we descend?

If we start from Rifugio Contrin, there will be no descent on the glacier, so we will descend via the same route we used for the ascent.

I've done some ferrata in the Dolomites, but never long ascents. Can I handle it?

It all depends on your fitness level. 1350 meters of altitude gain on ice and snow is a lot. It would probably be wise to test your fitness with some long mountain hikes first.

Is the cost of the overnight stay at the refuge included in the price?

No, the cost of the overnight stay is not included. The price includes the guide's services and any rental of missing technical equipment. The guide's fees are the responsibility of the participants.
