Basic course - mountaineering

The course is suitable for beginners with little or no experience in mountaineering, but also for experienced hikers who want to improve their skills.

During the lessons, climbing techniques, safety maneuvers on rock and ice, equipment preparation and excursion planning will be taught.

In a basic mountaineering course, various disciplines related to the mountain are covered, such as via ferratas, climbing and glaciers. The aim is to introduce the mountain in all its aspects, increasing the awareness with which the hiker approaches mountaineering.

General program

Five outings in the environment

1 – Day dedicated to learning climbing techniques, knots and basic safety maneuvers. In particular, we will study: double rope, belays, knots. The day will take place at the crag in Rocca Pendice or a nearby crag

2 – Easy via ferrata, review of the previous lesson in particular the knots. Explanation of the tying in a rope for crossing glaciers

3 – Applying rock safety techniques while tackling a short climb. The goal of the day is to apply what has been learned in the previous days.

4 – Marmolada: climb to the refuge. Explanation and application of maneuvers and safety techniques on ice. Review of tying in a roped party, holding tests. Overnight stay in the refuge.

5 – Marmolada: climb to Punta Penia or Rocca depending on conditions. Roped in and correct use of crampons and ice axe.

Requirements & Material

Requirements:

Don't suffer from vertigo

Habit of walking uphill for several hours

Habituation to cold, even intense cold


Necessary material:

Complete mountaineering equipment. All equipment can be rented upon reservation

Spacious backpack (30 litres)

Down filled comforter

Shoeller or Polartec pants

Technical underwear

Goretex shell

Two pairs of gloves, one light and one heavy

Cap

Sunscreen, cocoa butter

Sunglasses

If you do not have the material, ask for it a few days in advance and, as far as possible, we will find a solution together.

Requests?

Do I have to be very fit?

Mountaineering is generally a fairly strenuous activity, even for the most basic climbs you need to be in good physical shape and be used to walking uphill for several hours.

I don't have any equipment, is it possible to rent it?

Yes, it is possible to rent it, just book it at least two weeks in advance.

How do you behave in case of bad weather?

If the Alpine Guide deems that the conditions are adverse, he can cancel or postpone the excursion. In case of cancellation by the Alpine Guide, any deposit will be fully refunded or, in agreement with the client, retained for a possible other date.

Can I participate in individual outings?

No, the course consists of 5 days. If you are already an expert in some area you will use the day to study advanced techniques and progressions
