Winter mountaineering in Torre Jolanda

Winter mountaineering in Torre Jolanda

The climb to Torre Jolanda (2,761 m), located in the heart of the Moiazza Group , is a winter mountaineering itinerary that requires technical preparation and a good level of training. Tackling this peak with ice axe and crampons is a real challenge for high mountain enthusiasts, who want to test themselves in a wild and evocative Alpine environment.

The route, characterized by a good mix of rock and snow, develops on challenging slopes that require the continuous use of ice axe and crampons. Along the climb, there are stretches of powdery snow and ice, which require a technical approach, especially in the steepest areas and in the narrow passages.

The final step towards the summit is the most technical, where you have to tackle short passages of mixed rock climbing, often icy, which require a good command of winter mountaineering. Once at the top, the view extends over a breathtaking panorama, with the peaks of the Moiazza Group , the Belluno Dolomites and Mount Civetta rising majestically.

The descent is done carefully, partly along the same ascent route, tackling steep slopes and canals. This itinerary is perfect for those looking for a winter mountaineering adventure in a unique natural setting.

Requests?

Do I have to be very fit to climb a vajo?

Yes you have to be very fit, climbing a vajo is quite a tiring activity. Going up the vajo with crampons on your feet and then going back down takes several hours, if you are a good walker who is not afraid of long treks you should have no problems.

I have never used an ice axe or crampons, can I climb a vajo?

Yes, just choose an easy or medium one from the ones offered.

Do you need a 4x4 to get to the meeting point?

Generally it is not necessary to have a four-wheel drive car, however since it is a strictly winter activity it is advisable to have winter tires and snow chains on board since you may have to face climbs and descents on snow-covered roads.

How do you behave in case of bad weather?

If the Alpine Guide deems that the conditions are adverse, he can cancel or postpone the excursion. In case of cancellation by the Alpine Guide, any deposit will be fully refunded or, in agreement with the client, retained for a possible other date.
