Moiazza - Nevere Waterfall
Share
In December, almost every year now, the story repeats itself: little snow and a great desire for ski mountaineering. Unfortunately, the forecasts predict full sun for at least 15 days and not even a trace of snow, of course I could go up and down like a hamster on the Marmolada but it is an activity that no longer excites me as it did some time ago.
I message Gianni on Whatsapp and between one compromising image and another we sometimes write about the mountains, he also wants to go for a walk but above all, like me, he doesn't want any confusion.
We agree to go on an excursion, we don't know where, but it will certainly be far from the usual routes, an out of fashion place.
We meet at 7 in Agordo and, between a brioche and a cappuccino, we feel like going on the Viaz dei Cengioni to San Sebastiano, a wonderful viaz that cuts across the mountain offering spectacular views of Pelmo, Moiazza, Pale di San Lucano and Agner.
But we also want to dust off the ice axes and crampons that we haven't used since last year. We are very undecided!
We have no intention of going to Colfosco to do the usual waterfalls crowded with the other ice climbers, we like much more the idea of slipping into Val Corpassa to see if there is something formed and if necessary to nibble a little. So we head towards Val Corpassa keeping the Viaz dei Cengioni as plan B.
We pass by car under the Nevere waterfall which seems feasible even if it is not yet perfectly formed,
especially in the upper part. We continue towards the Trieste hut and from there we walk to check the other flows that will turn out to be anything but frozen. Back in the car and down towards the Nevere waterfall, luckily we found ourselves there early in the morning!
In about twenty minutes we are at the attack and we set off towards this nice flow still in the process of forming but climbable with a good safety margin. Both Gianni and I had climbed it a few years ago and we remember that after the first pitch, between one easy step and another, there are some puddles of water that should be frozen. Needless to say, I manage to jump out of the ice as it sinks under my feet, Gianni in the meantime laughs as if he were watching a comedy film.
We climb a few easy pitches up to a ledge, from there we should proceed walking easily on the frozen stream until we reach the second part of the waterfall which however from the previous observation we know is not well formed. We therefore decide to do a few rappels, descend and go home to eat a nice plate of pasta.
An excellent mountain pine allows us to make the first descent, the second one is equipped with two pitons that we connected leaving a blue cord. The last one, the third, is on a piton and a bolt with a quick link.
The Nevere waterfall is a waterfall of low difficulty but very educational since the stops are almost all to be equipped on ice, pines or old nails to be connected and reinforced appropriately. The wild environment, the constant view of Torre Venezia and its overall length certainly make it a waterfall worthy of being climbed even by the most expert.
There is the possibility, once the waterfall is finished, to climb further without difficulty among the vegetation until you cross path number 554 that crosses under the Cima dei Tre until it joins path number 555 that climbs towards the Vazzoler refuge and, from there, then descend towards the Trieste hut. The first time I climbed the Nevere waterfall I opted for this solution creating a wonderful circular route that is certainly long but for this very reason complete and very rewarding especially from a landscape point of view.
